2013 Bar and Bat Mitzvah Bookings
The calendar for 2013 is open to accept bookings for Bar and Bat Mitzvah. Please keep in mind when considering a date, that your son must be at least 13 years old according to his Hebrew birth date, and your daughter must be at least 12 years old according to her Hebrew birth date. Please contact the synagogue office for a booking form and assistance.
Membership Renewal and High Holiday Tickets
Beit Rayim membership renewal forms, invoice and information updates for 2010/11 have been mailed. If you have not received yours please contact the Synagogue office asap. Details for this year’s HHD services on the Lebovic Campus are included here, the schedule of fees can be found here, the calculation sheet is here, and payment authorization form here.
It continues to be the policy of Beit Rayim that no one will be denied membership for financial reasons. This year we have now established a special email address which gives you a direct, CONFIDENTIAL, contact to the Fair Dues Committee. The PJ Library Program comes to York Region
The PJ Library is a new initiative of UJA Federation in York region in which Beit Rayim is a core partner. The PJ Library delivers high a quality Jewish kids\' book or CD monthly directly to your home. The inside flap of each book lists key concepts and terms used as well as presenting family activities that build on the book or CD.
This award-winning Jewish program, started by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation in 2005, now touches over 125 communities across North America is in part designed to spark meaningful Jewish conversations within family settings.
The PJ Library is free of charge. Really, there are no strings attached. In Year 3, PJ Library families are invited to make a donation to help expand The PJ Library.
As the goal of the PJ Library program is to reach as many families with Jewish children as possible, all Beit Rayim families will be included unless you specifically indicate that you do not wish to participate. Furthermore, should you find that the texts are not age appropriate please feel free to share them with family, friends or neighbours living in York Region. The first book will arrive in August. Tikkun Adamah Community Supported Agriculture Program (CSA)
A session on Tikkun Adamah will be held as part of the Bayview Corridor Mitvah Day on April 25.
Jewish farmer Daniel Hoffmann of The Cutting Veg Organic Farm, in partnership with the Kavanah Organic Community Teaching Garden, is thrilled to present the 2010 Tikkun Adamah CSA!
This is a mutually beneficial partnership in which individuals or
families receive fresh, local, organically grown produce weekly, while
supporting local farmers and sustainable growing practices.
The Cutting Veg Organic Farm grows and sources local, organic produce, and community members will come to the Kavanah Garden at the Lebovic Jewish Community Campus in Vaughan on Thursday afternoons, from June to October, to pick up their weekly share. Become a part of the new Jewish food movement today!

Helping Victims in Chile
As everyone knows, there was another cataclysmic earthquake, this time on February 27, in Chile.
Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We know that many members of our affiliated congregations will want to donate to earthquake victims in Chile as they did for Haiti.
This time, we are collecting money together with Masorti Olami, the umbrella organization for Conservative synagogues across the world outside North America and Israel. (There are six Conservative/Masorti shuls in Chile.)

Passover Food Drive
Passover Food Drive: March 3 - March 17, 2010
Delivery Day: Sunday, March 21, 2010
The Haggadah reads "All who are hungry - let them come and eat. All who are needy - let them come and celebrate the Passover with us."
Participate in the National Council of Jewish Women of Canada, Toronto Section 2010 Passover Food Drive and make a difference!
- Donate generously - monetary donations will be used to buy food at wholesale prices and a tax receipt will be issued. Please call the NCJWC-TS Passover Food Drive at 416.633.5100 or click here for the monetary form.
- Drop off Kosher for Passover food to Council House - 4700 Bathurst St. or at participating grocery stores, schools, community centres and synagogues.
- Help sort, pack and supervise.
- Delivery Day Sunday March 21 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Come to 4700 Bathurst St. ready to deliver. Students can earn volunteer hours.
Bring a helper, a dolly and do a mitzvah.

Mercaz Essay Contest
MERCAZ-Canada, MERCAZ USA and Women's League for Conservative Judaism announce the opening of their biennial essay contest for teenagers.
The winners receive scholarships for Conservative movement-sponsored trips and study programs in Israel.
The contest will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism.

School Raffle 2010
This exciting project will help raise money for our school and youth programs.
Raffle prizes include summer camp fees (both overnight and day camp) and a Dell Inspiron computer, as well as incentive prizes for active participation.
All students of our Hebrew School have a book of raffle tickets and instructions.
The purchase of raffle tickets by Hebrew School families is strictly optional but we hope that you will actively support this initiative by purchasing at least one raffle ticket and approaching friends, family and neighbours with the others.

Purim- Mishloah Manot Program 2010/ 5770 is Launched
Beit Rayim's annual Mishloah Manot program allows you to fulfill one of the special mitzvot of Purim and at the same time support the Rabbi's Mitzvah Fund which helps those in need.
In the first week of February, all member households will receive a complete information package and order form by regular mail.
The deadline for ordering is Friday, February 12.

Project Connect
A team of Beit Rayim volunteers, under the direction of Paula Silver, have embarked on a new initiative called Project Connect. Its purpose is to establish a database of the interests, skills, talents and hobbies of our members. The data will be used to encourage volunteering and develop our resources, while fostering closer relationships between our members and the synagogue.
