United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism Awards
The United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism (USCJ) holds biennial competitions for awards called the Solomon Schechter awards.
According to the USCJ website, "The Solomon Schechter Awards program is one of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism's longest continuously running programs. The Solomon Schechter Award rewards extraordinary characteristics and certain unusual and outstanding aspects or achievements that go beyond the expected norms."
2007
In 2007, Beit Rayim submitted three copies of the Beit Rayim Bulletin to the Solomon Schechter Awards program competition. We are honoured that the Beit Rayim Bulletin won a Silver award in the category of Synagogue Bulletins. We are delighted to receive this award, and we'll try hard to live up to the lofty ideals of this USCJ competition.
2005
At the 2005 Conference of the United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism, Beit Rayim was honoured with several prestigious awards.
Israel Action Committee - Silver Award
More than one thousand people came out in the rain to the first ever Israel Marketplace celebrating Yom Ha'atzma'ut. Featuring more than 40 vendors, it was the largest gathering of retailers and distributors of Israeli-made products available locally. The Israeli Trade Commissioner welcomed the participants and the many satisfied shoppers.
The goal was to raise awareness of these products and help Israel's economy. In addition to meeting that goal, we also raised more than $5,000 for a hospital in Jerusalem.
Bard Tribute Evening - Honourable Mention
Eli and Ester Bard are a tremendous asset to our synagogue. They have been mentors and advisors to many congregants for many years.
The Tribute evening was wonderful, from the scrapbook, to the speeches, to the Klezmer music, with the Bards' three sons performing with the Klezmer group. Eli delighted us with his own special performance as well, with Ester on keyboard. The whole evening was lovely from start to finish. Congratulations to Chuck Ticker and his committee on their outstanding job.
Strategic Plan - Silver Award
Beit Rayim began strategic planning in late 2004 by involving the entire Board and four past presidents, on a purely volunteer basis.
We learned a great deal about the consensus-building process, and how it can benefit a large group. We believe that the strategic planning initiative should continue that history of volunteer-led initiatives at Beit Rayim in the future.
Web site - Honourable Mention
Beit Rayim updated its Web site in 2004. The update project included improvements to design, implementation, and maintenance, with little or no cost to the synagogue. All content was edited for language, tone, and privacy concerns. Paper-based documents were converted into Web-friendly PDF files (after removal of personal information to maintain privacy). The new process makes it easier for volunteers to develop new content, in order to provide valuable information for Beit Rayim congregants and Web site visitors.
2003
