Egalitarian Conservative Synagogue in Richmond Hill / Thornhill

VAUGHAN, ON, Canada – April 16, 2018 – Beit Rayim, the fast-growing Conservative Egalitarian synagogue and school in the Richmond Hill / Thornhill area, is very excited to announce that Rabbi Joshua Corber will become its new Rabbi on July 1st, 2018.

“Rabbi Corber is very engaging and brings tremendous energy, wisdom and warmth, which is a perfect fit with our vibrant congregation”, said Shelley Isenberg, Chairman of Beit Rayim Synagogue and School.

Rabbi Corber, his wife Chloe and their 17-month old daughter Eliana are very excited to be joining the Beit Rayim family.

“I am honoured and thrilled to be joining the Beit Rayim family”, said Rabbi Joshua Corber. “My wife Chloe and I are very much looking forward to becoming immersed in Beit Rayim’s ‘House of Friends’.”

Rabbi Corber spent the past 4 years at Beth Tzedec in Calgary, where he developed a strong relationship with the congregation. Rabbi Corber's was truly appreciated by members young and old for his strong knowledge of Jewish laws and customs and his progressive insights made him a valued resource to his synagogue and to the local community.

“We would like to also thank Rabbi Zionce who, after six wonderful years as our Rabbi, has decided to move on to new opportunities”, said Lawrence Janit, Co-President of Beit Rayim. “We know this was not an easy decision for Rabbi Zionce, and we will miss his leadership, his humour and his friendship.”

Rabbi Corber and Rabbi Zionce will work together over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition for Beit Rayim’s synagogue and Jewish school.

“Our Rabbi Search Committee did an exceptional job throughout the process, helping us develop our search criteria and find a match with Rabbi Corber. I would also like to thank our Board for its leadership in guiding Beit Rayim towards this exciting new chapter”, added Isenberg. “We are delighted to have Rabbi Corber joining us, and we look forward to Beit Rayim’s continued success and growth under his leadership!”

About Beit Rayim Synagogue & School

Beit Rayim Synagogue & School (www.beitrayim.org) is the only Conservative synagogue in the heart of York Region, serving Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Maple and Vaughan. Our synagogue and Jewish school are affiliated with United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ).

While our congregation skews younger (our average age is 43), we are blessed to have enthusiastic and engaged members of all ages. We are recognized for our inclusiveness, and for having a huge heart. Beit Rayim takes pride in our warm, "haymishe" atmosphere and participatory services where women and men daven side by side and read Torah as full equals. Beit Rayim translates to "House of Friends", which reflects our core beliefs, as our members rejoice in having a connectedness to Judaism and to each other. Most of all, we are proud to say that our people are our strength and our gift.
